Three penniless pirates hide a leaking ship in a backwater lagoon and take on the one passenger who can read a chart: Lask, a haughty red-haired navigator who thinks she is the smartest person in any room. She is not. By midnight she has staked the crew's last coin on a card table run by a man who never loses — and everything after that, she pays back in person.
